Marking method: laser marking is usually easier to document than ink, paint marks, or adhesive labels
Packaging: review paper coatings, plastic bags, desiccants, VCI materials, anti-rust papers, pallet treatment, and carton labels if they are part of the delivered unit

Validation sequence: test the declaration before you trust it
A declaration is only useful if the evidence behind it matches the part being purchased. Procurement and quality teams should compare the supplier statement with the records that prove it.
1. Check the material certificate or mill certificate for grade, standard, melt or heat number, and chemical composition. 2. Compare it with the process flow: casting or forging, heat treatment, rough machining, finish machining, ring gear fitting, balancing, cleaning, coating, rust prevention, inspection, and packing. 3. Match incoming and outgoing inspection records to the batch or lot number shown on the carton or pallet label. 4. Review SDS or technical data for any coating, oil, rust preventive, cleaning agent, VCI material, desiccant, adhesive, ink, or packaging treatment. 5. Confirm the written SVHC statement under REACH (EC) No 1907/2006, including the Candidate List date used. 6. Read the change-control procedure for material, coating, packaging, chemical, process, tooling, and sub-supplier changes.
Dimensional validation needs actual measured values, not only pass/fail marks. Common controls include crank bore diameter, bolt-hole PCD, dowel position, friction-face runout, ring gear concentricity, mounting-face flatness, overall height, mass, and balance. Typical drawing tolerances may sit around +/-0.02 to +/-0.05 mm for critical machined diameters, 0.03 to 0.08 mm for face runout, and part-specific limits for residual unbalance, but the approved drawing governs. RFQ wording that prevents compliance disputes later
The RFQ is where REACH compliance for flywheel sourcing becomes practical. If the request is vague, the quotation may exclude declarations, coating data, packaging information, inspection records, or annual updates. That creates conflict after samples are approved.

MOQ and price follow the production route. Existing catalogue items can often support lower trial quantities. Typical timing is 3 to 7 working days for document review, 15 to 30 days for samples when tooling exists, 35 to 60 days when new tooling or ring gear sourcing is required, and 30 to 45 days for production after approval, subject to part complexity and order quantity.
If the application needs a non-standard ring gear, a specific inertia target, a revised coating, a tighter runout requirement, or a special anti-rust process, use custom manufacturing to lock the specification before production starts. That is usually cheaper than rework after first article approval.
